My RPN information is not updating
Importance of retrieving RPNs
It is very important to ensure that an RPN is retrieved for each employee. This is to prevent them from being taxed on an emergency basis.
More information about RPNs is available on the RPN Information and Create/Add RPNs help pages.
If the RPN is not updating, the following three checks can be performed in order to rectify this error:
Check 1¶
- Ensure that there is only one RPN displayed on the system. If there are multiple RPNs, they must be removed.
- Please note that this action can be performed only by our Support team.
- Once the duplicate RPNs have been removed, the employee’s RPN will need to be updated. To do this, go to the employee's profile, and click on Edit Info > RPN Information > Update Now.
Check 2¶
-
If the employee has recently been added to the system without any settings configured, the employee should be deleted, and imported through the ROS Auth Cert. This will ensure that the correct information is pulled through.
ROS Auth Certs
More information about ROS Auth Certs and other digital certificates is available here.
- Use the system to identify if the desired RPN is not in the RPN history. To do this, go to the employee's profile, and click on Edit Info > RPN Information.
- In the event that the RPN does not update after following these steps, download the RPN CSV file from ROS, and contact the Support team.
Effective date
Even when the RPN information updated successfully, you may find that the information (tax credits, cut-off points, etc.) is not being applied on payslips as expected. In such a case, there might be an issue with the effective date of the RPN.
In the downloaded RPN CSV file (mentioned above), you should check the effective date. If the date is wrong, you should contact Revenue to fix it and generate a new RPN with the correct date.
As long as the effective date of an RPN is before the pay date of a particular pay period, the RPN should be effective on the payslip for that period.
Check 3¶
-
The RPN information will probably not be effective if the employment ID has been incorrectly captured on the system. If this is the case, the employment ID must be updated.
Employment IDs
More information about employment IDs and how to change them is available on the RPN Information and How do I change an Employment ID? help pages.
Other troubleshooting¶
If you experience the error "Date of Birth is invalid. Employee has to be less than 90 years of age", you'll need to enable the Allow employees outside age limit feature to retrieve the employee's RPN. This can be done as follows:
- Go to Settings > Advanced > General.
- Tick the Allow employees outside age limit (e.g. entertainment industry) box.
- Click Save.
