A new field is now available for adding Additional Voluntary Contributions
On 23 August 2021, Revenue published an updated Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme (EWSS) guide. In today’s blog post we will do a short recap on the recent developments to the EWSS, the updates in the new guide and the implications thereof for employers currently claiming under the EWSS.
SimplePay automatically calculates and applies a pro-rate percentage to the Basic Salary of employees if they do not work for a full pay period i.e. the are appointed after the start of a pay period or terminated before the end of a pay period. We’ve received several requests to allow for the pro-rata percentage to be applied to other items, and are delighted to announce that this functionality is now available for certain custom items.
In March 2021, we introduced beneficiaries to the system (refer to our blog post dated 9 March). We’ve now expanded this feature to allow you to pay beneficiaries in bulk.
In January 2021, Revenue made a Preliminary End of Year Statement for 2020 available for each employee, to assist in determining the amount of Income Tax and USC due. Where employees have under-contributed Income Tax and USC for 2020 due to participation in TWSS, you (the employer) may decide to pay the liability on their behalf.
Our last blog post explored the extension of the EWSS to 31 December 2021. As you know, to qualify for the EWSS employers must show a 30% reduction in turnover in comparison to the same period in 2019. Employers are required to review their eligibility on a monthly basis, but this was an internal check.

Your first Statement of Account is produced by the Revenue computer system based on all payroll submitted with a pay date in January 2019. The Statement of Account contains a chronological list of all tax liabilities incurred, any amendments to these liabilities, all payments made in respect of these liabilities and the balance outstanding at the end of the period referred to in the statement. The Statement of Account for January will need to be submitted by 14 February 2019, with all subsequent submissions due on the 14th of the month following the payroll month.
The functionality for submitting payroll information to Revenue in 2019 has now been released.
The next step in preparing for 2019 payroll is complete: RPNs can now be retrieved for all employees.

With the new tax year underway since 1 January, we’d like to reassure you that our system has been updated to ensure that you are always compliant with legislation. There is no need to do any manual updates as in other payroll systems – simply continue processing payslips into the new tax year. Your payroll will automatically meet all the requirements for the 2018 period, as announced in the 2018 Budget on 10 October 2017. If you are still processing payroll for the 2017 tax year, the old tax rules will still be used, as you’d expect.

Here at SimplePay, we believe that taking leave and getting paid should be the least stressful work related things that your employees can do. In the past, however, this hasn’t always been the case, mostly because of all of the red tape and paperwork involved in collecting payslips, and requesting and approving leave.
